Service Description

This class is a follow up for those who would like to take what they learned in Cast-On and Go! to the next level or a review for those who have dabbled in knitting before. If you have not taken Cast-On and Go! please contact Sönna via the contact form on the Classes page to find out if this class is right for you. Are you ready to knit? During this three-session class students will complete a Man Hat (which looks great on a woman, too!) while covering everything a beginning knitter needs to know: ~The basics of yarn and needle choice: What is weight? What is a hank? A skein? A ball? A cake? ~How do different fibers behave and what would be best for my project? ~There are so many needles, so how do I decide which ones are right for my project? Do I really have to buy all these needles or is there a better option (hint: there is!). ~Gauge: what is it, how do we check it, and is it really necessary? ~How to read a pattern and helpful tricks to keep your place. ~Knitting essentials review: Cast off, Long tail cast-on, knit stitch and purl stitch, decreases ~Magic Loop method for knitting in the round ~Picking up dropped stitches in knit and purl (for those who already have a little knitting under their belt) ~"Tinking” or unknitting ~Finishing a project: you put all that time into knitting, aren’t we done yet?! Nope. ;) This class will cover sewing in ends, washing and blocking finished projects. ~Ravelry: Do we really need an account? How do we navigate Ravelry and what are the benefits of learning to use this free platform? ~If I could bring home three knitting books to reference over and over, what should they be? Materials List: Note: To make it simple, Acorn Street Shop in Seattle, WA has kits available for this class and can mail them to you. Please call 206-525-1726 for more information. ~The Man Hat pattern (a copy can will be sent out with your registration) ~1 skein Malabrigo Chunky or Berroco Vintage Chunky ~16in US8/5mm needles and 40in US8/5mm needles ~Stitch markers ~Crochet hook for picking up stitches (optional) ~Notebook and pen ~Wool wash (optional) Homework: There is homework for this class. Those enrolled in Cast-On and Go! will have completed their homework as an extension of that class. A pdf outlining the course and the homework will be emailed to you.

Cancellation Policy

All classes are non refundable, however I recognize that occasionally a class must be missed. If that is the case, the following explains what I ask of you, and how I am able to work with you to make it up as well as what I am able to offer in the very rare occasion that I must miss a class. In the case of a student not being able to attend I can offer you space in one of the following two Studio Classes if: 1. I receive notice of your need to miss class 24 hours prior to the class you must miss and 2. As of 12pm on that day there is space available in the Beyond Beginning Project Class. This is a 2 hour class with other students attending and working on different projects, so I may not be able to cover everything we went over in class that you missed, but I will do my best to get you the vital information. In the case of a class being cancelled by me, I will reschedule a make-up class on the same day of the week and time that the canceled class was scheduled and as close to the classes you signed up for as possible. If you can not attend the rescheduled class, you may attend any Studio Class of your choosing free of charge. I will be emailing codes to enter upon signing up.
